Responsible AI Policy
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 12, 2025
1. Why We Created This Policy
Career Key uses artificial intelligence (AI) in some of our tools to help people make better career and education decisions to strengthen their career well-being. This policy explains how we use AI responsibly and in alignment with laws and ethical standards.
2. Who This Policy Is For
This policy applies to everyone who uses or partners with Career Key products that include AI features — including students, individuals, schools, colleges, employers, and other organizations. Read it alongside and in agreement with our Terms and Conditions and Privacy policies.
3. Our Commitments to You
- We follow all applicable state and federal laws, including FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
- We do not share your personal information (PII) with third parties, including large language model (LLM) providers or external platforms.
- We use AI to support your decision-making, not to replace human judgment.
- We prioritize transparency, fairness, and your safety in how we design and use AI.
4. How Our AI Works
Ariel, our AI assistant in PathAdvisor, provides guidance based on your inputs, such as assessment results and reflections. Ariel is not a human counselor or advisor. If it doesn’t have enough information to help, it may recommend talking to a person. You can stop using Ariel or opt out of AI interactions at any time. We may remove your access to Ariel at any time for any reason.
5. Privacy and Security
We do not use your conversations or data to train external AI models. Your personal data is kept secure, and access is limited to those who need it to support your experience. Our AI tools follow Career Key’s Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
6. Bias Mitigation and Inclusion
Our AI is designed to treat everyone with respect. We partner with Microsoft to test our tools to reduce bias and ensure all users receive helpful, inclusive guidance. (Microsoft’s Responsible AI Policy). If you feel something Ariel said was wrong or biased, we want to hear from you.
7. Human Support and Escalation
If Ariel detects signs of distress, it may suggest speaking with a trusted advisor, organization or school resource. Ariel is not a mental health professional.
8. Environmental Responsibility
We recognize that AI technologies consume energy with environmental impacts. We are intentional in how we design and deploy AI tools, choosing approaches that minimize computing power and avoid unnecessary large-scale processing.
We avoid reliance on external large language models (LLMs) that require high energy usage.
Whenever possible, we prioritize lightweight, efficient AI tools that serve users without sacrificing sustainability.
9. Ongoing Oversight
Our team regularly reviews how our AI tools perform and makes improvements based on feedback, research, and legal standards. Career Key staff complete training in Responsible AI, ethics, and data privacy.
10. Questions or Concerns?
Contact us by filing a support ticket if you have questions about how our AI works, want to report a concern, or need help with your data.
