Short, structured CCR activities and assessments for personalized advising

Houston teachers and counselors can use Career Key’s college and career readiness (CCR) activities to help all students discover and plan for best “fit” careers and education programs where they will thrive.

Created by a counselor educator, our solutions enrich and expand the work 8th to 12th grade students are doing in AVID, Gear Up, TRIO, and CTE as they plan their education paths.

Career Key Houston Texas is exclusive to Career Key’s hosted platform.

What our partners say

Students really took to the assessment. They felt that the assessments were pretty accurate, encouraging them to want to investigate more into their interests and goals…

Although students don’t make endorsements until ninth grade, Career Key has helped our students proactively plan their high school choices.

Now every eighth grader has a basis for their endorsement choice going into ninth grade.

— Ray Weaver, Senior Manager for College Readiness, Houston ISD

Career Key is our favorite tool! The Career Decision Profile gives us the opportunity to show students the value of knowing their own strengths, identifying barriers that may hold them back, and reflecting about their career choices.

— Associate Director of Student Services, top 20 undergraduate business school

Of all the assessments I have tested, Career Key Discovery is the only one I’ve found to link the results to courses and occupations of interest effectively. It is a key step in the process for people who are searching for the best career path forward.

In just 1 or 2 class periods, students take a short 10-minute assessment, Career Key Discovery, based on Holland’s Theory and explore “Thriving” and “Promising” careers, localized clusters, and CTE programs that fit their personality, interests and values. Students can then choose high school classes that best prepare them for successful postsecondary transitions.

For many students, the Career Key experience will be the first time they’ve ever had the opportunity to seriously consider their future. Their assessment results can serve as a launching pad for completing learning plans and meaningful conversations with their families and friends.

The options displayed in the short 10-minute, Career Key Discovery career interest inventory, are based on the scientifically valid Holland’s Theory of Career Choice and can be localized to fit your needs.

Research shows that a close fit between a student’s Holland personality types and postsecondary education program can:

  • Predict higher grades
  • Impact persistence in a program

Career Key Central gives educators, counselors and administrators a central hub for communicating with students as they move through Career Key Discovery. Educators can send students reminders for a deeper dive and encouragement to support their choices and decisions that lead to accomplishing their academic and career goals.

The dashboard makes it fast and easy to upload student rosters and export rosters to other systems. Educators can search student data by several criteria, including:

  • Students’ interest in specific career clusters
  • Personality types to deliver individualized and group communications

The dashboard also makes it simple to keep students informed about upcoming career events, college fairs and resources within the Career Key ecosystem that are particularly valuable for them.
