Mind Your (Support) Gap in Career Transitions

Whether or not you plan for them, events or nonevents that alter our lives – transitions – are a part of life. While it’s easy to identify career transitions like a job resignation or starting college, some are less obvious. For example, failure to get an expected promotion or being assigned a significant new job responsibility. All these career transitions can be harder to manage if you don’t identify gaps and shore up your support system.

Career Key has published a new, self-help article for the public called “How to Manage Transitions” that includes a free worksheet download, Manage My Transition.  It’s a guided reflection tool that you can use to cope with any kind of life transition. It will help you identify what resources you need to cope with change. It’s based on Dr. Nancy Schlossberg’s respected transition theory.

This worksheet and related content is also included in Career Key Discovery – Transitions, along with our career interest inventory, career and education program matching, and other decision-making resources.

Manage My Transition has helped me think differently about changes in my life, including identifying ones I did not see before but were affecting my mental health. It’s helped me ask for more of what I need in the way of support. I hope you and your clients or students find it useful too.
