How does "My College's Majors" work?

What is a User Code?

A four-letter/number code is necessary to login to take the assessment. You also need it to return to your assessment results.  It is not case-sensitive; you can use either lower- or upper-case letters.

Where do I get a User Code?

  1. You receive one when you pay to take the Career Key assessment, or
  2. You receive one from a person or organization (e.g,. school, college, career center) that purchased multiple assessments through our group purchase program.

If you purchase an assessment, you receive a User Code twice from our payment vendor SWREG:

  1. On the screen confirming your payment, and
  2. In an email SWREG sends to you.

After getting a User Code, how do I take the assessment?

Click on "Login" at the top of the home page, then, you will be prompted to enter your User Code.

If you are using a code purchased by a group, you will be further prompted to enter a User Name (your email address) and Password. If you forget your password, click on "Forgot password?" and we will email it to you. Check your Spam folder if you don't see it soon.

Browser Settings: (i.e. Internet Explorer) how do I ensure the assessment works on my computer?

Javascript must be enabled on your Internet browser for the Career Key assessment to work properly and save career/major selections. Internet Explorer's settings, especially in schools, may need adjustment. A warning will appear during the assessment about your browser settings, with a link to instructions on how to fix it. Also try using a different browser like Chrome or Firefox that are less likely to have this problem.

How do I make a group purchase of multiple assessment-takings?

Visit this page for details. You can also visit our Store to make Group purchases for any of our assessments.

How do I return to my assessment results after I've logged out?

Click on “Login” at the top of the home page, then you will be prompted to enter your User Code.

If you are using a code purchased by a group, you will be further prompted to enter a User Name and Password.  You will automatically be sent to the page where you last ended your assessment session.

How do I learn more about the research foundation for each assessment?

After I finish The Career Key assessment, how do I change my career and major selections?

For 12 months after you take the Career Key assessment, you can return to add or subtract careers or majors. Log back in (see previous answers) and on the left side of your assessment results page, click on the "Change Selections" button at the bottom of "My List."

Who has access to my Career Key results?

You and anyone you give your User Code to. If you are part of a group, your Group Administrator will also have access. Please see Career Key's privacy statement.

How do I access my group administration account?

Group administrators log into to the Career Key website (top right) using their group user code. Click on "Activate Group Admin Account" below the "Returning Users" column on the right. Enter your email address and choose a password.

Who is SWREG?

SWREG is Career Key's online payment vendor. For questions about any Career Key product you purchased, please email customersupport@careerkey.org with your order number (U[number]).

Troubleshooting

My User Code does not work.

User Codes expire 12 months after you take the assessment. If you are within that 12 months and have this problem, please email customer support with your order number (U[number]) or email address used to purchase the assessment.

I never received an email from the payment vendor SWREG with my User Code.

Check your email filters to make sure the SWREG email was not mistakenly filtered out.

If you use PayPal and give SWREG a different email address than the one you have on file with PayPal, you will not receive your SWREG email.

Email customer support with your order number (U[number]) or email address used to purchase the assessment.

I received an email from SWREG saying that my order could not be processed.

SWREG handles our purchasing process.  If your credit card is expired or you do not provide up to date contact information, your order will not be processed unless you contact SWREG to make other arrangements.

I lost my User Name and/or Password.

Log into The Career Key using your group's assessment code, under Returning Users click on "Forgot password?" and we will email it to you. Check your Spam folder if you don't see it soon.

I was stopped from completing the assessment, either I received an error or my browser unexpectedly closed.

You should see a warning pop up from Career Key that your browser settings need to have "Javascript enabled." Follow the instructions for how to fix it, or login again using a different browser. Any assessment progress up to the career/major selection process will be saved.

If you do not see your question answered here, please email customer support. We make every effort to respond within one business day.

Using our Online Store & Purchasing ePublications

How do I purchase an ePublication?

  1. Select the ePublications you want from The Career Key’s Store,
  2. Pay in a variety of ways and currencies,

  4. Save the publications to your computer, and
  5. Read them on your computer or print to read.

How do I get Adobe Reader? Just click here to download to your computer. It is free.

How do I download an ePublication I purchase?

When you receive your payment confirmation screen from our payment vendor SWREG, you will receive a link to click on to download your ePublication. You will also receive an email from SWREG containing the link.

What do I do if I cannot download an ePublication?

Email customer support with your order number (U[number]) or email address used to purchase the ePublication and we will provide it to you via email.

Is it safe to download my ePublication?

Yes. You won't download anything harmful, like a computer virus.

How do I read an ePublication?

Two ways. First, you can read it on your computer; all you need is Adobe Reader. If you buy an e-book, you will be able to navigate around the book by clicking various links, just as if you were on the Internet. It will also have links to key websites. Or, second, you can print your publication out and read it that way.

Can I really print out my book or document?

Yes, as long as you follow the guidelines. With most e-books on the market, this is not permitted or possible. We trust that you will not do any unauthorized copying -- violating the copyright. With Career Key publications, you are permitted to make individual, personal copies -- in some cases, more. Read the "Terms and Agreement" guidelines at the time of purchase or visit our "Purchase Agreement."

Is it safe to pay online?

Yes. The "https" in your browser shows that our payment vendor SWREG's website is encrypted to the highest standard. SWREG is a subsidiary of Digital River, one of the largest e-commerce providers in the world. At the bottom of your ordering page, you will see the padlock symbol and confirmation of SWREG's daily security monitoring through McAgee and Geotrust.

What are the advantages of ePublications?

There are several. You can buy and receive them immediately with your computer; no wait for shipping. You can view them wherever you wish from a laptop computer. The e-books have links that help you navigate and access valuable websites on the Internet. They are written by a respected author in the career counseling field. Your purchase supports the Career Key website, a free public service that daily helps thousands of people. And, unlike most e-books or e-documents available, you can print out Career Key ePublications.

How does "My College's Majors" work?

What is "My College's Majors"?

This feature, only available to higher education customers, allows you to set up your Career Key group access code so the College Majors Explorer only shows students those majors and programs of study offered by your institution.

This makes the Career Key experience more relevant to your students by matching them to majors available to them at your school.

How do I take advantage of the new "My College's Majors" feature?

At the top left of your group dashboard, "For Higher Ed Use Only" you'll see the option to select a unique College Identifier (ID) for your group access code. Follow the instructions to locate, enter, and save your College ID. The update occurs immediately. Login to Group Administration

What if I decide I no longer want to use "My College's Majors" feature?

You can remove any saved College ID and click save. Please note that while past users' majors selections will not be impacted, any users logging in (new or returning) after this change will see the full default list of college majors.

What is the source for Career Key's information about my college's majors?

We rely on the most recent list of majors and programs your institution filed with the U.S. Department of Education (IPEDS). 2014 is the most recent year available until June 2016 when 2015 data is released.

What information will Career Key give about each major?

New majors added in this product release will link to the U.S. Department of Education's College Navigator for more information.

In 2016 product updates, Career Key will provide more information about each major within the product. We will also enable customers to customize major titles and link majors to pages on their college's website.

How does "My College's Majors" impact my students?

For any customers not using the new "My College's Majors" feature, their users will see an increased number of college majors in the College Majors Explorer.

It does not impact past student users' selections of careers and majors. But after you start using the new feature, when past users log back in to change selections, they would see the new list of your school's majors in the Explorer section and only be able to add those to My List.

There is no impact to the Career Explorer portion of Career Key.

How does this impact Career Key's College Major Match Service?

This service will be phased out in 2016 as we add functionality to Career Key Discovery and is no longer open to new participants. We will work with our customers to make a smooth transition at that time.
