Career Counseling FAQ
Going to a professional career counselors can be quite
helpful. We recommend it highly.
Unfortunately, however, anyone can call themselves a "counselor" or "career
counselor". You want to get one who is professionally
trained.
If you are a student, you will likely have access to a
trained counselor. Whether you are a student or not, go
to the National
Career Development Association's website. It's an
excellent source. Under the heading and drop down menu "Career
Center" select "Need a
Career Counselor?" and "Consumer Guidelines for
Selecting a Counselor". You will find many topics
of interest, such as:
- Consumer Guidelines for Selecting a Counselor
- Search for a Counselor by State
- Career Counselor Training
and Credentials
- What do Career Counselors Do?
- Career Counseling Fees?
Another excellent source is Counselor Find at the National Board of Certified Counselor's website. There you can locate a professional counselor by area of practice and location.
