About the Author

A professional translation was done by a highly respected firm, Bilingual Communications. Care was taken to keep the reading level at approximately the 8th grade level and to be sensitive to cross-cultural differences. It was then field tested with Hispanic students who could read Spanish, in middle & high schools, and at North Carolina State University. They were primarily from Mexico. Overall, the responses from students and ESL teachers were very positive. Based on their comments, a few changes were made.

No studies have been conducted investigating its validity and reliability, but based on student and teacher responses its face validity is strong. An unexpected finding was that many students could not be included in the field testing because they could not read Spanish.
