The Career Key Fact Sheet

Lawrence K. Jones Dr. Jones is a professor Emeritus in the College of Education at North Carolina State University; he specializes in the areas of school counseling and career counseling and development. He received his Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and earned his Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Missouri.

Dr. Jones was born in Fargo, North Dakota and raised in the Central Valley in California. His high school counselor told him that further education was not in his future. At the urging from a former teacher and after being held up at gunpoint several times in his part-time job as a liquor store clerk, he attended and graduated from California State University in Sacremento. He was the first in his family to attend college or graduate school. From 1963 to 1966, he was a secondary school teacher at Tarsus Amerikan Koleji, Tarsus, Turkey. He is married to a former school teacher and librarian, Jeanine Wehr Jones, and they have two children and three grandchildren.
